Barchester's Irish care home boasts range of facilities

Barchester has opened its first care home in Ireland, the Knightsbridge Village.

Situated in Trim, County Meath, it offers a choice of living options, from a residential care home with nursing care to housing and apartments for independent living.

Knightsbridge Village has an on-site medical centre and the company states that it has invested in highly-trained staff and well-planned accommodation in order to provide for the individual needs of residents.

Barchester stresses that, while standards across the sector are being improved through the Health Information Quality Authority (HIQA), the company has its own simple philosophy: "To exceed all required standards and in so doing establish its own quality benchmark."

It adds that Knightsbridge Village is placing a particular emphasis on quality cuisine and a stimulating programme of events and activities for residents, underpinned by the idea that physical and mental engagement is vitally important for a happy lifestyle.

Meanwhile, a report in the Irish Independent has given a variety of tips on healthy eating to boost brain powers.

It said that omega-3 fatty acids are abundant in salmon and are essential for brain function, while eggs are high in choline, which aids memory development.
